DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THEM.

I just came back from Sematan last night. It is a long journey whereby it takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach home.

I started teaching on 21st July, Monday at SMK Sematan. It was my first day of teaching and first day of working at SMK Sematan.I am no longer referred as temporary teacher but I am now GSST (Guru Sandaran Sudah Terlatih) before I am confirmed as a qualified teacher (many procedures to be taken before your confirmation).

I am asked to teach English Remove class, Form 1 and Form 2 weak classes and Pendidikan Moral for Form 2B, D and E.Before i entered the class, SMK Sematan Pengetua,Mr.Ivor Lim told me that these classes are weak academically and they are quite disruptive.Other teachers told me the same thing.Therefor, i am quite prepared. However, for the time being,i have no problems with these classes. They behave well in my lessons.

A teacher's job is not only to teach but class management is very consequential as well as teacher must know how to manage the class.Otherwise, lessons cannot be taken place.

I learnt a lot of things this week.In fact, i compare students in rural school and students in town whom i have taught before i am posted to rural school.I realise that students in rural school are so keen to learn and they are very enthusiastic in their learning. They see English subject as something that is very "unique" to them; some of them even perceive English language as an "alienated" language. When i speak English to them, they look at me with curiousity and puzzlement. From their faces,i can tell that, they have initiative to learn and they are actually trying to understand me.They try to comprehend what i am trying to say. They want to learn, just that they are lack of exposure.

Most of the time,i have to speak simple English with actions and gestures so that they are able to guess what i want them to do.

For example, i said, "You don't have to hand in your exercise books." But,i was surprised that they all came forward and put their exercise books on my table. Then,i repeated my words again, "I say you don't have to hand in your exercise books, i say , "NO"! Then,a few students whispering to one another, telling their friends not to hand in their books,"Teacher says NO"!That is when they took back their books.Don't you think that they are very cute?

I like to say, "Could you please speak louder?Your friend cannot listen clearly from the back...Louder,please!"

I was so impressed that a few days ago, one of the students from FORM 1F told me, "Teacher, louder please!" when i was playing a song which is entitled, "Hole in the World" for Literature - Poem "The Dead Crow" by A. Samad Said.I felt a sense of satisfaction.Students are trying to immitate me.

I teach Pendidikan Moral also.I love to tell stories with them and guess what?Pendidikan Moral is written in BM but I teach Pendidikan Moral in ENGLISH!Well,in fact, i speak two languages at the same time.I asked students for their opinions. To my surprise, they told me, "Teacher, this is the first time that we speak English in other subjects besides English subject!"One of the students even told me that "teacher, very good.we can learn two languages at the same time!"

Can you imagine that this is what a Form 2 student told me?
I love teaching, that is why i can talk so much about my profession.

Teaching is part of my life

Busy life. Busy with teaching, students, school...

I am so lazy to meet up with friends! So sorry, friends!I will try to make it ok.So tired after going back from school...

Who says teacher's job is easy? Not at all!Actually, our work starts after school hours! However, i enjoy my teaching life in BL.I feel that teaching becomes more challenging when i teach weak classes and blind and low vision students.I have goals and I want everyone of them to succeed!
